VAPING GUIDE
Beginner's Guide to Vaping
What is Vaping?
Vaping is the act of inhaling and exhaling vapor produced by an electronic cigarette or vaping device. The device heats a liquid (e-liquid or vape juice) to create vapor that is inhaled. Vaping was originally developed as an alternative to traditional smoking.
Basic Components of a Vaping Device
1. Battery
- Provides power to heat the coil
- Can be built-in or removable
- Measured in milliampere-hours (mAh)
- Higher mAh = longer battery life
2. Tank/Pod
- Holds the e-liquid
- Contains the coil and wick
- Can be refillable or disposable
- Different sizes available
3. Coil
- Heats the e-liquid to create vapor
- Made of resistance wire
- Needs regular replacement
- Different resistances available
4. Wick
- Absorbs e-liquid and delivers it to the coil
- Usually made of cotton
- Needs to stay saturated
Types of Vaping Devices
1. Pod Systems
Best for: Beginners, portability, simplicity
- Small and compact
- Easy to use
- Pre-filled or refillable pods
- Lower vapor production
- Higher nicotine concentrations
- Great for mouth-to-lung vaping
2. Vape Pens
Best for: Beginners to intermediate users
- Simple design
- Built-in battery
- Refillable tank
- Moderate vapor production
- Good for learning vaping basics
3. Box Mods
Best for: Experienced vapers, customization
- Larger devices with more power
- Adjustable settings (wattage, temperature)
- Removable batteries
- Higher vapor production
- More customization options
- Better for direct-to-lung vaping
4. Mechanical Mods
Best for: Advanced users only
- No safety features
- Requires extensive knowledge
- Maximum customization
- Highest risk if used incorrectly
- Not recommended for beginners
Understanding E-Liquids
Components of E-Liquid
- Propylene Glycol (PG): Carries flavor, provides throat hit
- Vegetable Glycerin (VG): Creates vapor, provides sweetness
- Flavorings: Food-grade flavorings
- Nicotine: Optional, various strengths available
PG/VG Ratios
- 50/50: Balanced, good for most devices
- 70/30 (VG/PG): More vapor, smoother hit
- 80/20 (VG/PG): Maximum vapor, may not work in all devices
- Max VG: Maximum vapor, thick liquid
Nicotine Strengths
- 0mg: No nicotine
- 3mg: Low nicotine
- 6mg: Medium nicotine
- 12mg: High nicotine
- 18mg+: Very high nicotine
Vaping Techniques
Mouth-to-Lung (MTL)
Similar to smoking a cigarette:
- Draw vapor into your mouth
- Hold briefly
- Inhale into lungs
- Exhale
Best for: Beginners, higher nicotine, pod systems
Direct-to-Lung (DTL)
Direct inhalation:
- Inhale vapor directly into lungs
- Exhale immediately
Best for: Experienced vapers, lower nicotine, box mods
